As English is theonly worldwide used language, English learning courses are correspondingly popular all over the world.However, when asked whether native English-speaking teachers are beter than non-native ones, different people
hold different views.In the excerpts above, the teacher and the student have totally different points of view. Taking his father’sEnglish learning experience as an example, the student vividly demonstrates his point of view that nativeEnglish-speaking teachers are more suitable for English learners. He believes that they can force learners tocommunicate in English, which can help them improve their pronunciation and decipher the accents aroundthem. As for the teacher, however, it’s quite a different story. He thinks the perception that native Englishspeakers are better than non-native teachers can not justify itself and argues that this perception needs to bechanged.
As far as I am concerned, there are three reasons for native English-speaking teachers being more suitablefor English learners. First of all, as native English speakers, they master the latest English expressions. As acommon language frequently used all over the world, English words and phrases are updated with the times. Inorder to catch up with the current trend, learners need to know the meanings of new expressions as well as theirusages. Secondly, since native English-speaking teachers come from the West, they have a good knowledge ofwestern culture. Last but not least, native English-speaking teachers can help English learners think in English.As a matter of fact, learning a language is not simply memorizing its words and grammar, but thinkingand expressing in its way. Therefore, compared with non-native ones, native English-speaking teachers aremore suitable for English learners.
